New website

Post by derbystiger » 23 Feb 2015, 14:03

Just been on to have a look at the new website and it looks good with only the online shop yet to be transferred across I think, so a big well done to all concerned in the designing of it. However, it seems very slow to load pages to me. Has anybody else looked yet and has the same problem?

Looks like the server is being hammered with people trying to access it.

I've had no speed problems at all and think the new wider design is much better than the old site. All we need now is for Cas to give the go ahead to do the online shop.

I think this may be the case as I have had a couple of 'server not responding' messages from it. Looks a massive improvement though. Very clean and professional looking

I was on it earlier, but apparently the server is offline because of a power shortage. It should be back as soon as it's sorted.

Now that I've managed to get on to the website I'm disappointed.
  • Not responsive - it's 2015, every website should be responsive.
  • Scroll hijacking. It's pointless and a gimmick.
  • The code is bad... really bad.
It's better than the old website but overall it still needs work, the frontend devs need to really work on the performance too.

I dont know what scroll hijacking is, but looks a big improvement to me. Its loading a little quicker for me, but still not as quick as I would have thought

There's a javascript file which is changing the scroll behavior (scroll down on this website and now the new site... notice how it's slower and has a delay?)

It's annoying and as a frontend developer it pees me off :D

I like the look of the site but the URL changing annoys me more than it probably should.

You would think the club would own the rights to castigers.com but it seems that might not be the case.

Just in case Straw Jonny are reading:
  • z-index issues with the logo/dropdown navigation
  • Scroll jacking is even worse on Macs, throws you around the page making it difficult to stop at a certain point
  • Dropdown floods the console with "starting" and "mouse is over" - please don't console.log on production sites.
  • You're also logging on homepage too
  • javascript is blocking the content from loading on the club section
  • While we're on the subject of JS please minify/concatenate.

Every site is going to launch with bugs, either due to time restrictions or just those that slide past QA testing. See it as positive criticism :D

Least the club have launched the new site, I've been redeveloping the new forum theme for way too long now. Think I've scrapped it at least 5 times to start again. One day though it will appear... maybe!

there's lots of work still to do to the site by the looks of it, no player stats & the shop link leads to the old shop (says new shop coming) which seems to have nowt much to sell?
