Re: Raw Pace....
Fair point - well made.
I remember Keith Fielding watching Dave Finch pull away from him on a golden night down the lane vs Salford.
Bruce Burton was electric over 30 yards.

At school with both of them. Terry was particularly nippy . He might have been lightweight, but he knew how to look after himself, as did FennyDanny Boy wrote:Terry Richardson was lightening fast and Fizzer Fenton could shift a bit, Singe was also very quick, but I think our new boy Solomana is really quick.Adelaide Tigurrrr! wrote:Terry Richardson one on wing and Steve Fenton on the other. Fastest pair of wingers I have seen at the club.

Re: Raw Pace....
Faster than Paul Sampson? He was lightning but Jason Robinson was the fastest over 10 yard in any direction. There is also many hookers over the years that were so quick out of dummy halflurcher wrote:going OT the fastest i ever saw on a rugby league pitch was berwyn jones, he would have given offiah 10 yards start.

Re: Raw Pace....
Wasn't Berwyn Jones an Olympic Sprinter? - I remember him coming to Wakefield and burning up a few sides.
I also remember Geoff Wraith going the length of the field at Warrington to win a cup game (second round I think) sometime around 1977 or so. OCL might remember exactly.

berwyn was the AAA british 100metres champion but the race that mos remember him for was the 1963 sprint relay victory against the USA. berwyn ran the anchor leg and held off olympic champion bob hayes to win.TT Tiger wrote:Faster than Paul Sampson? In 1996, Paul won the England Schools 100 metres title in 10.48 seconds, beating Dwain Chambers. In July that year he was called into the England rugby squad while still attending Woodhouse Grove School.lurcher wrote:berwyn was the AAA british 100metres champion but the race that mos remember him for was the 1963 sprint relay victory against the USA. berwyn ran the anchor leg and held off olympic champion bob hayes to win.TT Tiger wrote:Faster than Paul Sampson? Re: Raw Pace....
I can remember one of our props running the length of the field at Halifax out pacing their wingers and centers, a certain Mr Lynch, he showed real pace.
We also had Gary Belcher he was quick, as others have said Terry Richardson, his only problem was he couldn't catch a ball

I remember Gerard Cordle at Bradford...lighting fast when he managed to catch the ball. He was so bad at it he got stuck with the nickname "Teflon" from his own team mates!
