I agree, its a no brainer, all you need is that one error from your opponents & your on the front foot, at worst they have to clear their line & if our defence isn't there, they score at tuther end of the field ](*,) its all if's & but's!cabbageprince wrote:I don't get the criticism of the kick offs? Tackle them on 10m-15m out every time. High and deep to give chance to get up there. What more could you want from a kick off?
Obviously odd short one when we're behind near the end maybe.

I dont even think its that, its because its the exact same spot every time, be nice just to see him kick to the otherside once in a while

Take the wife or girlfriend for a valentine weekend to France. Watch the boys take on Catalan what more could she ask for.

I too think it could be varied from time to time, but its just a safe option & the pressure is on the receiver, my heart is always in my mouth when we collect from a deep kick off especially when the first pass isn't taken clean or we then have a winger trying to clear our line which isn't always the best idea in my mind.the machine wrote:I dont even think its that, its because its the exact same spot every time, be nice just to see him kick to the otherside once in a while

Thats my problem with the kick off exactly machine - the reciever does not even move he knows exactly where the ball is going if he kicks long I dont have a problem with it iI would just like it placed differently thats all.

Re: It feels weird
I like the accuracy of our kick offs & attacking kicks but my issue is with the predictability of the flight of the ball. We hit them in a way that the trajectory of the ball is a neat arc. If we made the ballspin along its long axis then the ball is likely to swerve & move as it falls making fielding the ball a real test & the likelihood of a knock on increases.
This was a common skill across the league a couple of seasons ago which has generally fallen out of favour but it is an option we ought to include in our game.

Re: It feels weird
maybe we should ask the opposition where they would like it to be kicked and oblige them. or maybe we should kick it to where we think it is to our advantage. know what i mean.
