Bentham has been announced as the ref for the final, only thing on my mind is at least its not child! Thaler is also the video ref, i personally would have prefered silverwood to ref but oh well COYF

Don't worry about the Refs. It's a cup final. They will try to hae a good game. Let's not give them reason to penalise us.

Re: Phil bentham
Phil Bentham will referee the 2014 Tetley’s Challenge Cup final, Castleford Tigers v Leeds Rhinos at Wembley Stadium on Saturday (3.00pm).
It will be Bentham’s third Wembley appearance following his Challenge Cup final debut in 2011 and last year’s final, Wigan Warriors v Hull FC.
He will be assisted by touch-judges Joe Cobb and Robert Hicks, whilst Ben Thaler will be the video referee alongside video referee spotter Steve Ganson.

And James Child has been seconded (infinitely?) to the fledgling newly formed Iraq and Kurdish RFL Refereeing Association at its headquarters in Mosul, Northern Iraq to give advice and support to inexperienced refs.Di wrote:Phil Bentham will referee the 2014 Tetley’s Challenge Cup final, Castleford Tigers v Leeds Rhinos at Wembley Stadium on Saturday (3.00pm).

His first assignment is to oversee the interpretation of Laws in conjunction with his Muslin State/Isis counterpart.
We should be so lucky

Re: Phil bentham
Wasn't Bentham the ref who shafted us twice in the same season against HKR, once after the hooter had gone, and in the home game a try to Liam Watts under the post?
Re: Phil bentham
Give Roby his due, he made the right call on Sunday down at the hive which stopped the rhinos pinching at least a draw against the Broncosthe machine wrote:More importantly roby and child nowhere to be seen

Lets not forget Roby gave us a last minute penalty under the post's for Ellis to kick the winning points against Whino's a couple of seasons ago.

Re: Phil bentham
Forgot to add that Bentham failed to give us a penalty in the semi-final in the last minutes when Chase attempted a drop goal. Still watch it now and then to see that Peacock and co were 8 yards offside, and then gave them a dubious penalty for the golden points.

Re: Phil bentham
Dubious penalty? That the one where McGoldrick couldn't keep his tackle down? Was a penalty all day long.
I don't care who's the ref! They're on the biggest stage and will want to impress to get a gf spot. They'll be trying to get every call right, If we don't win it will either be us underperforming or Leeds turning it on that decides it. Not the referee.

Re: Phil bentham
You're right about the penalty Dettoriman but IMO Castleford should have had the chance to win it with a penalty of their own before the final whistle, with Leeds being offside. I know from experience, that a referee only gives honest decisions on what he or his liners see, and they are there to be shot down, but turn up week in week out. Bentham being chosen for the Challenge Cup Final although not ruling him out for the Grand Final, will be behind Silverwood and Thaler for that game.
