Castleford Academy

Post by Clarky » 03 Jul 2008, 22:58

Castleford 56- 22 Widnes (24-6 halftime)

Lynch, Pountney, Arundel, Atkinson, Dawson, Thompson, Turner, Walker, Swift, Bassinder, Siddons, Davies, Cording SUBS: Holmes, Gledhill, A Jones, Bryan.

Another brilliant performance from the young TIgers. Sam Lynch at fullback was outstanding (claimed a hat-trick).

It's great reading that our 18's are doing so well. The kids are the future and with way some are developing and the positive attitudes and love for rugby they have the future can't come sooner for them.

Well done guys

Fantastic news, lets just hope they all turn out to be future stars like Shenton, Owen, Boyle etc and not dross like former academy captain Grant Edwards.

That's a bit harsh. If you get 1/2 out of any team at this age (in any sport) that turn into real stars then that is a success. For the rest, if a proportion stay in the professional game at all and manage first team level anywhere then they have done well, certainly don't deserve to be referred to as dross.

dross is a bit harsh isnt it? he's playing for a competitive Sheffield Eagles team in NL1 - a division we are very familiar with and may still be playing in next year.

I'm not knocking the lad, well i supose i am. Is it just me i don't know but i have yet to see Boyle have a fantastic game. I just hope he can up his game over the next couple of seasons and not stagnate becoming a reasonable NL1 player.
I know he's home grown talent and we should be holding onto home grown talent but at the moment everyone is crying out for success and to get it we need better in the 1st team, then again who is better!

Must agree with you Fig, Boyle seems to have struggled when he as been given his chance this year after impressing in NL1 the season prior.
Next season his a big year for him and he must start performing at a higher standard if he is to warrant a further contract.
Next season we have to include a further home grown product anyone any ideas on who deserves the promotion from our junior sides?

Agreed. Apparently he said that 'no one is stading out in the academy or 18's'

Like when Scott Moore got injured and he decided to bring one of his mates back in by calling Thackray back up despite him being absolutely appauling the week before in the Academy.

Personally, I find the credibility of TM to be questionable regarding selection of up and comming players, the latest piece of 'scuttlebut news', Jack Lee is to be'loaned out' to another club for 'experience' by our Aussie Guru MR, much to the annoyance of the players...........whats wrong with OUR first team for gods sake, we have played Thackeray as Hooker who has been found wanting, Scott Moore returns this week, therefore bootlace slow passes, unforced erorrs and silly penalties with be 'de riguer' for the forceable future.

With this season being dead it is apalling we continue to play the likes of Moore, who goes back to Saints next year , rather than giving one of our own hookers a chance to develop at the higher level.
At present we have everything to gain by giving our own a chance and nothing to lose.
