Full back

Post by Mr XP » 16 Jun 2008, 08:10

What are we going to do with this position????

Do we keep donlon, persist with the notion that goldy can do it??, Try Dorn back there or maybe Rich Owen???

Or do we make it a priority signing for next season and get a quality fullback?? I.e Brett Hodgson who would have been a great signing??

Maybe a poll would be good on this??

Donlan is most consistent for me.

3467 should be Shenton, Goldy, Dorn and Sherwin, and Owen should be in the reserves.

Donlan is reliable and hasn't really put a foot wrong since moving back.

It all comes down to the fact TM can't/won't drop McGoldrick. Deep down Terry realises he isn't a full back, but has to find somewhere to play him and as we have better options in the centres and the halves then full back is the only option to play him, or at least that's the impression I get. I would like us to get a top class specialist full back, who is dangerous coming into the line. Donlan does a good job there, but I think it would be a nice idea to get someone dangerous coming into the line.
And for the record, personally I'd have McGoldrick at loose forward maybe even interchanging hooker now Scott Moore is out, or at least give him a shot there.

I think its nailed on that Cockayne from Hull KR has signed for next season. He's a good full back, so there shouldnt be much of a problem. after him id go Donlan

With nothing to play for the rest of our gap year I think it's time we started to give a few of our good juniors a chance to develop in their natural positions, for that reason alone I'd go for Owen.

Hes been more effective as an interchange hooker than he was a FB IMO

I thought his inability to tackle was his main problem why would/do you see him as an hooker
His best attribute is linking from FB in attack but there again we need him to stop the nights out and he maybe able to take the odd high ball an not see 3

I Think that not one of them is currently showing that they are good enough. Although i like these players in other positions, full back is not their best.
They are no where near as good as Wellens, webb, briscoe, mathers etc......

If we are to improve our team then I think a Full back who is strong, can catch, can tackle and is speedy.

I dont ask for much

I would love to see us get a top quality FB. The NRL is full of them and it is a position where there is an abundance of talent over there. Hudds have already signed one in Brett hodgson. No probs with Stuey Donlan he is a Mr Reliable but he is never going to set the game alight or do anything out of the ordinary. I see him more as a squad or utility man who can fill in several positions as and when required.

this season is a lost cause, now is the time to try owen in his natural position to see if he can handle it between now and the end of the year,if he cant then there`s nothing lost but if he can there`s plenty to gain.

Donlan is Mr reliable - Mr consistent all the time.
Hes absolutely safe at back.
Tries is all there because thats is natural positions,
May not be a Paul Wellens but then again who else in SL is?
Donal is my vote for next year. Never lets us down!

I have a lot of time for Stu donlon, he does give his all and is very reliable, however it does grate on me that we let Hodgson pass us by....(actually i forgot there was no quality players available at that time  ) He would have also filled our role of a quality goal kicker that i saw a debate about on another thread.

got to agree here, against huddersfield he was the only player who had a go playing from fullback. he looked dangerous and safe, i say give him a go what can it hurt now???

In a season where youth was going to be given a chance, let`s give Boyle and Owen a fair go. Boyle`s gametime for whatever reason, has been very limited, are their financial areas in his contract being brought into play? is he on a contract that pays more the more games/time he plays? let him have a fair go ,if he fails we can always put him back to the academy to regather confidence but as many have stated,he seems to lift the team when he comes on,give youth the chance you promised, what have we to lose?
