Football legend dies

Post by marshman » 17 Nov 2006, 10:35

Ferenc Puskas

83 goals in 84 games fort Hungary.
512 goals in 528 games for Real Madrid. (including 4 in a European cup final win)
357 goals in 354 games for Kispest Honved.
Olympic gold medal.
5 Hungarian league medals
5 Spanish league medals
Spanish Cup medal
3 European Cup medals
Intercontinental Cup medal

Also was a main figure in two of World footballs' most historical sides, The Mighty Magyars (Hungarian national side) and the legendary all conquering Real Marid of the late 50's.

Let's hope the world of football remembers this guy tomorrow and more importantly, in the years to come.

RIP- a REAL football legend!

Have you heard of Di Stefano? He and Puskas were the big names in the Real Madrid side of the late 50's.

May he rest in peace and I hope every football team remembers him and shows their respect for a true legend of the game,a minutes silence isn`t too much to ask for such a great player.

Di stefano is probably the one most people talk about when they talk about Madrid. But often, Puskas is voted higher than him with regards his playing ability, and that in itself must make him a truelly great player. I saw a poll recently somewhere, and Puskas came in 4th behind Pele, Maradonna and Cruyff leaving the likes of Best, Di Stefano and Beckenbauer miles behind.

Anyway, i hope the footballing world pays its respects over the weekend.

Di Stefano did wear the # 23 shirt as well, I remember this because of the fuss made when Beckham could not have #7 (due to Raul) and he took 23.

He (Di Stefano) presented Owen with the shirt because he's an honory president of the club etc.
