FC can you explain to me how batting averages work in cricket? Only reason I ask is I've often seen players new to the test arena with an average higher than their best score. Explain!

Bowlers are normally good for this. I think it could be due to inning were they were not out. Their score continues until they are eventually out.

Almost there Sigon. It's the number of runs scored divided by the number of times out. It can result in a quite ridiculous figure for someone who has scored a few runs but rarely been out. Like Sigon says, bowlers can come out of it quite well if they can actually bat a little.

I have never won the batting averages.

I always thought it was something along those lines, but never failed to be confused when seeing the likes of Mike Hussey with an average of 120 when at the time he'd never scored more than 101!

And me, with a maths degree! :lol:
