Funny thing I found with him was he has had far more bad games than good, by a huge margin.
In the grand slam year for Wales he was awesome. Not only did he kick the winning penalty in the opening game v England, but he also put an abrupt stop to Matthew Tait's international career with a huge bone crunching tackle in the same game. Thankfully Tait once fit is back in the fold, but for an 18 year old on debut........well nuff said.
Anyways, take performances that year off Henson and he's never really shown that much promise and talent IMO. He went on the Lions tour and other than slagging most people off in his book and upsetting Lions and Wales team mates, he was frankly average in some very average performances. Nobody played well on that tour but he went with his big reputation was was pants.
Prior to then, he'd been discovered as this rare talent and thrown in for Wales at stand off and fullback, failing to impress every time.
Then once back from injury last season, he ended up being banned for the start of the 6 nations for a cheeky elbow against Leicester. Once he did get back into the Wales side, due to injuries ahead of him, he was pretty average.
Having watched him for the Ospreys 3 times of late, he does seem to be back on form, but he just comes across as one of these enigmas who's reputation is far bigger than their actual talent and capabilities suggest it should be.
I enjoy watching 'backs' play in RU as they run some great lines, something we in RL ought to learn from, however Henson really ought to ignore his own publicity as he's know where near the class of O'Driscoll.
