s4pm puts into words whats on everybodie's minds but aren't smart nor inventive enough to come out with . but thats what basically what we were all trying to say , we weren't slagging him off , and as s4pm says , we were merely questioning his abilities as a defensive coach thats all .Steadman_4_PM wrote:
I do not think they were, I think they were querying his qualities as a defensive coach given the huge number of points we conceded this season.

Worst defence in the league so far, however in yawnion they do kick a lot of penalties.
Is the coaching criteria the same for RU, the only similarity I can see is the shape of the ball, they pass it with hand and they kick to convert.
The rest is a totally different ball game, I know they have different coaches for certain area's. But marrying them up must be a nightmare.

Carlsberg don't do Soldiers, but if they did, they would probably be Brits.

I'd say it depends on the player concerned, their history (ie experience in each code) and the recency with which they last played the 'other' code.bad attitude wrote:most players find a code switch difficult at first.
Based on that I think each player / coach, and their ability to switch codes, has to be judged individually.
Andy Farrell for example, because of the more technical nature of the back row positions (although he is earmarked for inside centre), his learning curve is steeper than say Jason Robinson's would have been.

I feel a little sorry for Faz, not just all the injuries he has had since moving to RU, but the build up he's been given. Yes he's a very talented player, but IMO to play inside centre in RU you need some pace, not a huge amount as Mike Catt shows these days, but you must have some.babs wrote:Andy farrell....Mmmmmmm forgot about him...
I also worry that he won't be durable enough with his various knee injuries, to last more than a season or so. Fingers crossed he will emerge this season (has been playing well at 10 & 12 in the reserves) and perhaps solve some of England's back row problems. Doing so in time for the World Cup would be very nice.
