Ashes

Why displace Strauss to place Flintoff as captain?

I wouldnt have thought the extra pressure on freddie would be good for him, he needs to be less tied down to go out there and skittle the aussies.

Part of the reason for putting Freddie back in charge will be the impact he can have on Harmison. The 2 are best mates, room together etc. Perhaps the thinking is with Freddie as captain, there's a chance we'll get our worlds # 1 bowler back.

Freddie is skipper because of the impact he has on the side. They all look up to him and want to follow his lead. Of the current English players only Michael Vaghaun has the pressence to control this so in his absence, Flintoff is the man.

Unfortunately, the loss of Simon Jones will be the deciding factor and the Ashes will be hard to hang on to.

But look how botham faired as captain, too much pressure. I would have liked to see someone else in charge. You cant deny he is quality, but like you say who else is there? Must be hard on strauss though.

including freddie about 9 of the 16 man squad are currently injured, fletcher said he wouldn't do this again. I think we will be saying bye to the ashes this year
