Matterson still upbeat despite the loss

Castleford Tigers coach Terry Matterson believes his side are improving despite going down to their fourth successive defeat of Super League XIII.

Harlequins won 22-16 at the Jungle on Sunday to leave the Tigers bottom of the table without a win this season.

Matterson told BBC Radio Leeds: "Our effort was really good and obviously a massive improvement from last week. "No-one's going to give you your wins and it was there for us to take - but we didn't take it."

The Tigers looked set register their first points of the season when they went into the break 16-12 ahead, but were undone by two quick tries from the visitors.

Jon Wells scored against his former side to put Quins level before Henry Paul kicked over the extras to put the Londoners in front then Rob Purdham sealed the points with a late try.

Matterson said: "That's what happens when you're trying to find a win.

"It looked like we had that one for all the money, but credit to Quins - they battled in there and their completion rate was phenomenal.

"It's pretty heartbreaking for our guys. We've been through a tough week and they came out the back of it and worked hard for each other."
