Franchise Decision only Three Weeks Away

With only three weeks to go until the RFL makes its decisions known regarding which Superleague hopefuls will gain a three-year licence and remain in Superleague, have Cas` done enough to secure their place... The decision will be announced on the 22nd July, there are of course, 14 places up for grabs, and with 12 clubs already in Superleague, providing they all get a licence, the other two places could be filled with either of the follwing clubs: Salford, Widnes, Celtic Crusaders, Featherstone, Halifax, Leigh or Toulouse.
Superleague have already announced that the front runners for the reamining places are Salford, Widnes and Celtic Crusaders, however, who really knows what will happen with so many factors being taken into account including, stadium facilities, finance and business performance, commercial and marketing and playing strength, including junior production and development.

Keep your eyes peeled for further developments and we will of course have a list of all the teams that recieve the licences on the 22nd, best of luck Cas.

Fans Urge Matterson to get some Wins!

With only 8 Superleague matches left this season, can Terry Matterson´s Castleford side pull out all the stops in their remaining games and pull back some points.
The Tigers currently sit 4 points behind Hull FC in the Superleague table, after having won only three of their last nineteen SL matches, one loss that will be remembered for a long time was the recent game, in which over 17´600 people watched as Cas´ failed to beat an academy filled Leeds Rhino´s side.

The Tigers seem to be struggling, and with controversy picking up amongst fans, Terry Matterson will be feeling the heat to get the team to perform to perfection for the remainder of Superleague 2008.

Cas´ were favourites to sit at the bottom of the table after promotion from NL1 last season, but who would have predicted that they would have done it with a goal difference of -258 after only playing 19 SL games this season.
There is no doubt in the fans minds, that the Club has made some positive steps this year, including the re-securing of 22-year-old Michael Shenton earlier this week, Shenton sits behind only Andrew Henderson and Craig Huby as the player with the most appearances of the current first team with an impressive 93 games. Other progressive steps taken by the club this season include progress into the new Stadium, Joe Westerman´s 4-year deal, and a chance at the SL franchise, but are these things enough to keep the fans turning up at the Jungle, according to some fans, no they´re not.

Let´s hope that Matterson can get the wins that the fans of Castleford so eagerly await, and in my opinion, with all the heartache and humiliation that they have suffered as of late, so rightly deserve!

Shenton gets Tipped for International Call Up

Michael Shenton could soon be following in Joe Westerman´s shoes as the Yorkshire Evening Post reports that Tigers´ boss, Terry Matterson, believes that Shenton could be called up to play for England

Shenton has recently signed a new contract with the Tigers, Terry Matterson is reported to be extremely happy with the securing of the twenty-one year old centre.
Matterson is confident that the club have another player worthy of International success, "He's another one and I'm sure Shenners was in their talks as there's not a whole host of outside backs available for England, as long as he continues to do it for us and continues to progress it will come eventually, it might be next year or it could be two or three years."
Terry Matterson admits that, "He's only 21 but I've put a lot of work into Shenners so it would have been disappointing not to see him fulfil his potential."

Casforum wishes Michael and Terry all the best in thier hopes for the future, and we will of course keep you updated their progress...

Leeds Match Preview

This Saturday, Castleford face local rivals Leeds Rhino´s. The match promises to be an interesting one with a fight to the end. Last time these two teams met, it was Cas´Tigers who caused the upset at the Jungle. Will Leeds be looking for revenge?
One thing we can be sure of is that Terry Matterson´s team will be looking to increase their number of matches won, and another win over the Rhino´s would make Tigers´fans extatic.

With Joe Westerman due back in England tomorrow, Tery Matterson will make the decision as to whether the 19year-old will be named in his final 17. Joe was recently named in England´s international 19 man squad, but was one of the unfortunate ones to be dropped when the 17 men were named. The Tigers head coach, Terry Matterson, looked on the bright side saying, "It would have been nice for Joe to play this time but I'm sure that his chance will come. I felt that he might be one of the two to drop out when Tony Smith finalised his seventeen, but the experience of being in camp and part of the international set up won't have done him any harm at all. He will now know how things work and will have mixed with some of the best players in the game, so he can only have learnt from the five days which will benefit him next time he is called up."

Meanwhile, Leeds boss, Brian McClennan, named his 19 today and opted against playing the 6 men chosen for International selection. Eric Anselme and Nick Scrutton will also miss the match, Anselme is playing for France and Scrutton is suspended following his red card at last weeks game.

Good luck to the lads for tomorrows clash, get out there and play your hearts out lads!
